Grandpa Johnny’s Mill
How Panthertail Mountain Got Its Name

Marjorie Owen’s Panther Tales……….
will take you back  to an earlier time …..

From Little Panthertail Mountain (and there too hangs a

tale/tail – yes -  just ask John Green) comes a stream of

articles and anecdotes to educate and entertain…

1.      “Toxaway, Old Toxaway, Lake Toxaway – What’s

In A Name”.  Not many folk know the first Toxaway

settlement was way down there, just under the rim of

the Blue Ridge escarpment.

2.      “On the Eastatoe Road – How Rosman Came of Age”.

How Transylvania County’s oldest town grew up on

the banks of the French Broad River at the ancient

Eastatoe Ford

3.      “Grandpa Johnny’s Mill”. A five year old makes her

introductory visit to the family gristmill.

4.      “How Panthertail Mountain Got Its Name”. The story

of John Green’s adventure with a hungry panther.
