Hiking. . . hiking is a favorite activity at Panther Ridge. For a short jaunt take
the old road from the campground to the bench of Little Panthertail Mountain for a view of
beautiful Lake Toxaway in the valley below. Or visit the Forest Rangers' Stations
for maps and descriptions of nearby trails. Two national forests, Pisgah and
Nantahala, have boundaries within our county, as does our new state forest, Gorges State
Park.
Wildlife viewing ... Deer, bears and other wildlife
are regular visitors to our mountain. DO NOT APPROACH THEM UNDER
ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, NOR ALLOW A PET TO DO SO. Click here for photographs.
Resort Areas. . . Nearby are several well known resort areas: Lake Toxaway Estates,
Sapphire Lakes, and Fairfield-Sapphire Valley are three thriving resort communities that
evolved from earlier ventures begun around the turn of the twentieth century.
Panther Ridge is only minutes from these and other exclusive developments
